Snowmobile Trails
Snowmobile Trails
Lofsdalen is renowned for its many snowmobile trails and its magnificent variety of exciting forest trails, routes over stunning mountain slopes, and trails in open alpine terrain.
From Lofsdalen, trails head north toward Funäsdalen and Hede, while across the lake’s ice, trails lead: northwest to Slagavallen; south to Svanhågna, Våffelstugan, Sömlingshågna, and the Dalafjällen. The trail system partly runs high above the alpine tree line through impressive mountain landscapes with unparalleled views.
Our snowmobile trails require a paid trail pass. Trail maintenance is carried out by us at Lofsdalsspår, and our income comes from the sale of trail passes and from sponsoring companies.
Free Riding in the Lofsdalen Regulation Area
Lofsdalen offers freeriding for snowmobiles in two new freeriding areas. Riding off-trail is encouraged here for those who want to play outside the trail system. Freeriding is of great interest to many snowmobile enthusiasts, and we are very excited to give you free rein!

Tips for Snowmobiling
Lofsdalen offers snowmobilers fantastic mountain views with many great destinations. Riding through the wide-open mountain landscapes is a magical experience in itself, but here at Lofsdalsspår, we’d like to highlight a few especially memorable spots.
Våffelstugan – Hågntjärn
Experience Lofsdalen’s wonderful southern mountain side and the vast expanses around Hågntjärn. Follow the trail up to Våffelstugan, where you can stop for a break and enjoy their delicious waffles or something else from the menu. Continue on the trail toward Hågntjärn, where you’ll experience fantastic riding above the alpine tree line, with magnificent views of both Lofsdalen’s northern mountain side and the peaks and expanses on our southern side.
At Hågntjärn, Sömlingshågna rises majestically—our highest mountain at 1,195 meters. There you’ll find a rest cabin and a very popular grill hut, where you can barbecue or enjoy your packed lunch. Head northwest towards Slagavallen. Just before Slagavallen, there’s a wind shelter on a hill with a fantastic view to the southeast, overlooking the valley that gave the village its name. From there, take the trail to Lofssjön and return to Lofsdalen, or continue north toward the grill hut on Lussifjäll (not shown on the map).
Strådalsleden Grill Hut
For those looking for a shorter trip, the Strådalsleden Grill Hut is the perfect destination. The grill hut is located on Lofsdalen’s northern mountain side and can be reached via the Hovärksleden or Uppvallsleden Trails, then joining the northern snowmobile trail. Our northern snowmobile trail stretches over marshlands above the alpine tree line, offering vast mountain views. Turn off the trail at the sign for the grill hut. The grill hut provides barbecue facilities, or you can simply enjoy your packed lunch. At the grill hut, you’ll also find the mountain region’s only “kiss stop”—worth a visit in itself!
Lussikåtan Grill Hut
During your stay with us in Lofsdalen, we recommend visiting Lussifjället and its grill hut. Lussikåtan is beautifully situated at the foot of Lussifjället, with fantastic views of the Lofsdalen mountain peaks and a vista overlooking Sånfjället. To reach it, follow the northern snowmobile trail toward Funäsdalen.
After a stop at the grill hut and when it’s time to head back, continue on our northern snowmobile trail down to Slagavallen. From there, you can choose to take Strådalsleden back to Lofsdalen, but if you want to keep enjoying the stunning views, we suggest taking the trail over Åsvallen—dammkojan—and then following the Sömlingleden Trail back down to the lake and Lofsdalen.
Grooming of Snowmobile Trails
Snowmobile trails are groomed with a snowcat as often as necessary. Since we are also responsible for maintaining the cross-country ski trails, the routine is to groom the ski trails first, followed by the snowmobile trails. This approach makes sense, as snowmobilers can handle a few centimeters of fresh snow more easily than skiers.
Typically, the snowmobile trails are groomed in the evenings and at night for two main reasons. The snowcat is 5 meters wide, covering the entire trail width, so oncoming snowmobiles must veer off into the terrain, posing obvious collision risks if they’re traveling too fast. At night, the snowcat is more visible with its rotating lights, giving snowmobilers extra time to slow down. Additionally, it’s beneficial for the trail to freeze after grooming, which makes it more durable.
Our Ambition
Lofsdalsspår aims to provide the best snowmobile trails in Härjedalen. During the summer, the trails are improved with drainage work, bridge construction, and other groundwork. In the winter, the trails are groomed with a snowcat about twice a week, depending on wear and weather conditions
