If you want to avoid the steepest climb, take the Bandvagnen (Hägglunds Tracked Vehicle 206) up the mountain almost to the Passet (a narrow mountain pass). From there, the trail crosses open terrain above the alpine tree line, offering an incredible natural experience on these majestic mountain slopes. You’ll circle around Sömlingshågna, with its summit at 1,195 meters, and then enjoy skiing on slopes dotted with gnarled alpine birches, continuing down toward Lake Lofssjön and Lofsdalen. This trail is groomed fairly often during peak season with snowmobile, drag, and track sled, but not in heavy wind and snowfall. The tracks quickly disappear in drifting snow during storms. Check the status page before heading out on this route. Avoid this trail when visibility is low or fog is thick. As beautiful as it is in good weather, it can be just as intimidating in the wrong conditions. Pay attention to wind direction during strong winds. The wind chills significantly, especially during the coldest winter months. Wear windproof clothing, bring an extra hat or scarf, and apply a good amount of army skin balm. The area around Hågntjärn has poorer mobile phone coverage than the Lofsdalen valley. Move to higher ground if you need to regain coverage.
