Free Riding Areas for Snowmobiles

Lofsdalen offers free riding for snowmobiles in two new free riding areas. These areas encourage off-trail riding for those who want to explore beyond the trail network. Free riding is of great interest to many snowmobilers, and we are thrilled to grant you free rein!

Free riding with snowmobiles is understandably very popular among many snowmobilers. To accommodate this, there are two designated free riding areas for snowmobiling within our regulation area: a larger one on state land at Kölsjöfjället and a smaller one in Strådalen. In these areas, snowmobiling is unrestricted, with no trail limitations, as long as the ground is well covered with snow and the snowmobiling season is open.

Kölsjöfjället’s free riding area is the larger of the two, offering snowmobilers dramatic, grand mountain landscapes and beautiful views. Located northwest of Lofsdalen, Kölsjöfjället provides excellent opportunities to find spots that suit all types of free riding. This area lies on state land and is bounded by:

  • To the east, the reindeer fence toward Stor-fjällsjön.
  • To the south and west, the snowmobile trail from Fruhågna to Högvålen.
  • To the north, the shoreline of Stor-kölsjön.
