Length - 12.1 km Time - 1-3 hours Stenrutsleden MTB is closed from August 25 according to the landowner agreement. Stenrutsleden MTB begins with a 7 km climb. The trail crosses wide boardwalks and purpose-built bike paths and passes creeks along the way – perfect spots to fill your water bottle. After gaining some elevation, you’ll leave the forest behind, opening up to a mountain landscape with sweeping views. Once you’ve completed the climb, the most strenuous part is behind you, and the high mountain is an ideal spot for a rest. When you’re ready to continue, there’s a pump track to get you moving right away. The trail then winds through mountain birch trees with beautiful views over Lofsdalen’s home mountain, Hovärken. The next stop is a wind shelter above Våffelstugan, and from there, it’s all downhill. Follow Våffelstugan on Facebook for current opening hours. Just below Våffelstugan, the trail gets a bit rocky, with some steep sections. Remember to stay left after descending and follow the signs for Stenrutsleden MTB. The Vildmarksleden MTB Trail was crafted with love for both the cyclist and the mountains

The Vildmarksleden MTB Trail was crafted with love for both the cyclist and the mountains. “I wanted to build a challenging, hand-dug trail. If it isn’t used, I want nature to be able to reclaim it. I routed the trail along an exciting climb where you can see traces of how the ice age shaped the mountain, creating ridges with the perfect material for trails. This trail is tough and challenging. I built it with e-bikes in mind, so it’s as eventful on the way up as on the way down. I thought it would be fun to have double boardwalks—they add a unique challenge, especially on the climb. There’s a spot to rest on the way up, just when you need it most, and I even found an old bear den that the trail passes by. The downhill stretch is among the best I’ve ever built. It blends seamlessly with the mountain, following its natural slope. Thinking back, I remember all the mosquitoes and the endless buckets of material I carried there, but I also remember the magical feeling of that first ride and the incredible flow of the trail.” —Niklas Skogh, trail designer
